Get to Whamon! PR-01
Terriermon and I stand at the beach. The weather is warm and the water feels refreshing on our feet.
"What if I just swim there? You could ride on my head" "Don't play the cool, I know you can swim pretty well but that's way too far, even for you Ryo." I have to admit, Terriermon is right.
Far out in the sea you can see a small dark blue spot. From here it doesn't look a lot different than a bigger rock but in fact it's an enormous Digimon, a Whamon, waiting for the contestants of the DWC. Our task is it to somehow get to that Digimon, as fast as possible.
Firstly it sounded like an easy task and like we had more than enough time. But our plan got busted right away. We watned to easily digivolve and fly over the water. But then we remembered that digivolition is not allowed until later in the tournament. Now that swimming and flying were impossible and diving also surly is no option what else could we do?
"Ryo, what about building a boat? We have trees for wood and everything else too." "If there's something we both are crappy in, then it's building something. A boat would sink even before we reach the deep water."
Terriermon knows I am right. And I know that Terriermon knows it. We both realize that and start laughing. Other tamers and their Digimon examine us and turn away, probably thinking we're crazy.
We lay on the beach and keep thinking about a way to cross that water. "So if through and under don't work, what about over it?" "Did you forget, I am not allowed to digivolve." "Maybe we don't need that."
"You cannot be serious!" Terrier gasps after I explained my plan how to cross the ocean. "Sure we did this already but the risk of missing the Whamon is too big." "We have to train that before we do it, sure. But I think it will work. I believe in us!"
Terriermon looks straight into my eyes to see if I really mean what I am saying. After a few seconds it blinks and turns his head away, slightly ashamed of questioning me "Okay, you won. But if we land in the water, you will have to let me ride on your head. I don't want to get too wet." "Sure", I answer and lift Terriermon off the ground. "But first let's have lunch. I'm hungry." "Oh yes, me too!"
At lunch we discuss my plan a little further. What we will try to do is using Terriermon's "Terrier Tornado" to spin us up in the air. I will hold on his legs and Terriermon will use the updraft with his big ears to rise us up. Then we'll glide far above the sea to Whamon with the help of the always blowing wind here at the beach. There are just a few difficulties about this plan which we need to take care of.
One is that Terriermon's attacks are basically ice attacks. Meteorologically that is a little bad because only warmer or hotter air rises up and cold one sinks. So the updraft won't be that strong from the movement of the tornado alone. But I hope that we can get a little more updraft from the normal wind.
Second problem is that the spinning of the tornado may will face us into the wrong direction. That's what we have to train to avoid.
Third we didn't do that gliding too often yet and never over the sea. Terriermon's ears are big and strong enough for an even longer distance. So that will work. But still, we lack routine.
However mostly the wind will make us trouble we guess. Here at the sea the wind blows in cycles. We will have to train during the day when the wind will blow from the sea and finally go for it in the night or evening when the wind will take us out to the sea.
In the afternoon we already make a first try, Terriermon alone at the beginning. It uses his Terrier Tornado and rises up high into the sky. We're both surprised about how high Terriermon could get alone. I run after it and catch it in mid-air.
The next try we do it together as planned, Terriermon makes another tornado, I lift it up and hold on its legs. I walk into the tornado and we rather quickly rise up into the sky! We reach about three meter at the first attempt and could easily glide a pretty long distance without having any more updraft. Only the direction was a little wrong but we don't care too much about that yet. We are both content that we can get to Whamon easily with a little more training and the right timing.
"Terrier Tornado!"
Terriermon and I rise up high into the sky. The last warm and golden sunrays hit us as we reach the peak; a successful start on our way to Wahmon.
The last days we've been practicing and successfully managed to glide a really long distance into the right direction multiple times in a row. Now at dusk we prepared and started into our final flight.
As expected, the wind blows from the land to the sea and we quickly gain speed toward our target.
"Hey Terriermon, is everything okay up there?" "Yes Ryo, so far all indications in the green zone! Hahah!"
Guessing from our current height and speed it looks to me like we will glide a little too far. "We may will overfly our aim a bit don't you think?" "I can easily go down but going higher is harder. Let me keep that height and we'll lower it when we're closer." "Okay, you're right."
We get closer to Whamon with every second and I notice that Terriermon now lowers the height. The light already is really dim but luckily the flag on Wahmon's back can still be seen pretty well. In a few seconds we would land and join the group of Digimon and tamers already waiting there. Some look at us and wave, cheering about how we managed to get past the ocean. A few stay in the back, looking sharply at us and I can see their strength and potential with just a short glance. Those tamers will be fun to battle.
"Okay Ryo, get the landing gear out! Impact in 3, 2, 1…" Terriermon caught me a bit off guard and I stumble a little when I reach the skin of Whamon. But I manage to get both feet on the ground and cheer out "Landed successfully!"
I feel the sudden loss of resistance when Terriermon relaxes his ears and relieved sank into my arms. My arms are also a little sore and I just can manage to keep holding Terriermon but fall back down on my butt due to the sudden weight I miscalculated. However we both start laughing and hug each other, happy that we made it.
